Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (Matthew 6:19-21, KJV)
In this scripture of Matthew, Jesus is teaching to the multitudes on the mount. He was letting them know to not worry about worldly things. The hearts of people that are of this world is based on self-gain. Jesus is emphasizing that we should keep our hearts in the right place in all that we do for Him. Many of us are too concern about ourselves and worldly things that cannot save us nor give us the life that we ought to live by. Living the life starts from the heart. The things that matters most to us is where our heart resides. Our decision making, actions, and words come from the heart. If we are to follow Jesus, it is important for us to examine ourselves on a daily basis to see what matters most to us. As we consider what matters most to us, we will make better decisions and live a better life in spite of our circumstances. The decisions and actions that we make in this life will determine our rewards in eternity.
