An Expository of A Lukewarm Church: Repentance to Replenishment

And to the angel (messenger) of the assembly (church) in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the trusty and faithful and true Witness, the Origin and Beginning and Author of God’s creation: I know your [record of] works and what you are doing; you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of My mouth! (Revelation 3:14-16, Amplified Version)

The definition of the word lukewarm is moderately warm or tepid. A lukewarm persona is  having or showing little ardor, zeal, or enthusiasm as well as being indifferent. Jesus is sending a message to the seventh Church (Laodicea) listed in John’s prophecy concerning their spiritual walk. This Church (Laodicea) like many others in the Body of Christ today are in this same predicament. We are lacking fulfillment in our faith due to basing our faith and spiritual walk with God on selfishness and greed. As the scripture says, we cannot serve God and mammon. We are using our finances as a way of glorying ourselves rather than God. If anyone is to be rich financially, should share in their richness base on faith so that God is glorified. We are either worshiping ourselves or worshiping the way we think. Our wealth should be base on our spiritual walk of faith with God by way of Jesus Christ and not on our carnality. Repentance of the heart and mind on a daily basis leads to spiritual renewal and fulfillment and wholeness in every aspect of our lives.

For you say, I am rich; I have prospered and grown wealthy, and I am in need of nothing; and you do not realize and understand that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. Therefore I counsel you to purchase from Me gold refined and tested by fire, that you may be [truly] wealthy, and white clothes to clothe you and to keep the shame of your nudity from being seen, and salve to put on your eyes, that you may see. Those whom I [dearly and tenderly] love, I tell their faults and convict and convince and reprove and chasten [I discipline and instruct them]. So be enthusiastic and in earnest and burning with zeal and repent [changing your mind and attitude]. (Revelation 3:17-19, Amplified Version)
