The Two Kinds of Faith

Faith is total confidence and trust in God. Pure and unadulterated faith is this: trusting and believing in the integrity of God. Relying on God’s character that He will do what He said He will do is faith in its essence. That is true faith in the life of a believer. However, there are at least two kinds of faith: the fruit of faith and the gift of faith. The fruit of faith is part of the lifestyle of the believer that is constantly being produced within the believer. The gift of faith is God’s supernatural imparting of faith by His Spirit (Holy Spirit) to an individual to believe Him to manifest Himself in a miraculous way. (He puts faith within an individual to believe Him for the miraculous.) True faith will always result in manifestation.
The Fruit of Faith is what the Holy Spirit produces within the believer as they yield to Him in their daily walk with God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23 KJV) This isn’t the same as the gift of faith. The development of the fruit of faith is part of our walk with God. As we yield to God on a daily basis, the fruit of faith will be evident in our lives. The fruit of faith is developed as we walk with God. This kind of faith is produced in our Christian character and conduct. These two kinds of faith are diverse from one another, even though they may work together for the purpose of God. More importantly, faith works by love. For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love. (Galatians 5:6 KJV) Love has to be the main ingredient of our faith in order for it to work in our lives because God is love.

The Gift of Faith is what the Holy Spirit gives to the believer without any effort on the part of the believer. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. (1 Corinthians 12:8-11 KJV) This kind of faith is a sovereign act of God, and He gives this kind of faith to whomever He wants. A believer that has this kind of faith believes God for the miraculous. Individuals that have this gift are bold and fearless. This is a gift that is given to an individual by God for His pleasure.
